Summit Educational FoundationAwards Over $175,000 In Fall 2024 GrantsTo Summit Public School District

The Summit Educational Foundation (SEF) is pleased to announce 34 grants awarded in our Fall 2024 cycle. The Foundation approved funding that will impact the entire Summit public school system and totals more than $175,000 to support goals in content areas of technology, learning environment, social-emotional learning and achievement gap. A sampling of approved grants include:


District, Primary Centers & Elementary Schools

 

●      District-wide visit with author Candace Fleming. The author will visit all schools, holding assemblies for elementary and middle schools, and speaking with creative writing students at the high school. $15,000

●      Kindergarten Family Technology Night, introducing families to the digital tools and resources integral to the curriculum. $2,600

●      Equity & Anti-Bias Training for Staff at Brayton. Includes the viewing and discussion of “The Race to Be Human.” $1,650

●      Supporting an inclusive environment at Washington in all grades, providing sensory items, carpets, bean bags, and more to help students fully integrate into grade level instruction. $2,810

●      Cozy classroom reading areas for 2nd grade classrooms at Brayton. $5,873

●      Purchase of rolling desks and chairs for one 5th grade classroom at Lincoln-Hubbard.  Allows for easy reconfiguration of spaces for independent work, partnerships, and group collaboration. $12,196

●      Two (2) composting machines for Franklin to create a small-scale pilot program to compost organic waste from the school lunchroom for the school’s garden. $1,232

●      Purchase of new ergonomic chairs and inviting rugs for 2nd grade classrooms at Jefferson. $7,694

●      Theater Technology resources to provide equitable equipment for all five (5) elementary theater programs. Includes new spotlights, mics, and sound mixer. $21,657

●      A visit from Project Trio, a group of musicians that fuse together a variety of genres. The group will hold assemblies at every elementary school in the district and will also run workshops for 5th grade band and orchestra students. $11,250

 

Middle School & High School

 

●      A variety of diverse puppets, along with a puppet theater, to be used for skits, projects, and language practice in all world language classrooms at LCJSMS. $3,372

●       Mentoring program for the middle school, providing one-on-one mentoring between staff and at-risk students. $15,000

●      “Generation Text” assembly, featuring former Summit juvenile detective Sgt Tom Rich. Program will educate 6th and 7th graders on app use, safety controls on devices, location tracking, and cyberbullying. $2,250

●      Juno FM Systems, including pass around mics, for an additional five (5) classrooms in the middle school to help improve clarity and intelligibility by eliminating background interference for students with auditory needs. $11,997

●      Additional software and lab equipment for SHS Physics classrooms, allowing all classes to perform experiments and view college-level demonstrations. $6,645

●      A visit from two (2) ceramic artists/educators to introduce SHS Ceramics students to the ancient Japanese ceramic firing technique known as Raku. $4,000
